The story of The Sleepy Lake
The Sleepy Lake is a mirror, and there is a reason it is allowed to be. All along its edge grows the Hush — a deep, soft bushland that breaks the wind before the wind ever reaches the water — so the lake never has to move. It just lies there, wide and dark and perfectly flat, holding a second copy of the whole sky. An alder leans low over the water on one side, a broad mossy bank waits at the front, tall reeds stand at the other edge, and a small stream arrives quietly from the hills, joins the stillness, and stops being in a hurry too. On the water lives the Nodding Swan, black as the lake itself, doubled exactly by her reflection — and each night she gives one slow nod, tucks her head under her wing, and the lake holds two of her, both asleep. Nothing else happens. On a mirror, nothing else needs to.
Stories from The Sleepy Lake
Nothing from here has been published yet. The Sleepy Lake is still being filmed — the honest kind of gap, like the route’s “resident owed”.
