The story of Pasithea
Pasithea was the goddess of rest and relaxation in the oldest stories the world has — one of the Charites of the Greek myths, married to Hypnos, sleep himself. Which is to say: she has been doing this longer than anyone, anywhere, and it shows. She is the one character in this world who is serene because she knows things — not because she is drowsy — and her calm is the calm of complete authority: nothing about a bedtime has ever surprised her. She wears a soft collar of white daisy petals, the one thing in her whole design that says goddess rather than woman, and she is the keeper of the deepest words this world has — the spell said at the very bottom of the ladder, and nowhere else, so that it never wears out: go to sleep now. She has her own book. Of course she does. She has had her own book for about three thousand years.
