Tardy’s Home

The mushroom house at the end of the path.

The story of Tardy’s Home

Tardy’s home is a mushroom — a proper one, with a wide domed cap of deep red-brown clay spotted in soft cream, a rounded wooden door with a small brass knob, and one warm glowing window on either side of it, which at night are the only lights anywhere in the frame. Moss climbs the stalk by the door, a sandy path runs to the doorstep, and in front of the house a shallow stream slides past under a little wooden plank bridge. And that stream is the secret of the whole world. It is the same water that rose at the Sleepy Springs, fell down the Sleepy Waterfall, wound through the Sleepy Forest and crossed Moss Land — the entire route, arriving at one small front door. A child can follow the water home. That is what it is for. The road of the whole world ends at a doorstep, two lit windows, and a bed upstairs.

Stories from Tardy’s Home

Nothing from here has been published yet. Tardy’s Home is still being filmed — the honest kind of gap, like the route’s “resident owed”.
