The story of Tardy Sun

The whole world is named after being late, and the Tardy Sun is the reason. He is late out of bed. Every single morning. The one character whose flaw is the show’s own name — warm, slow, good-natured and very, very hard to wake, while Tardy stands underneath shouting, kindly, that he would like to go to school in the light, please. And when the Tardy Sun does finally get up, the morning arrives in the most extraordinary way: the light pours out of his snout. A soft stream of round golden dots drifts from the nine little openings in his face, runs out along his rays, and spills slowly across Moss Land until everything is lit. The mark every character in this world carries on their face is, on him, literally the source of the daytime. And in the evening he does the whole thing in reverse: rays drawn in soft and short, lids heavy, glow turned low and warm — going to bed early, for once, so that everyone else can too.
