The story of Sloth to Sleep
Sloth to Sleep lives upside down, hanging from his branch by his thick soft limbs, and that is not laziness — it is genius, of a very slow and specific kind. Everyone else in this world has to work their way down the ladder: droop the branches, lower the lids, fold the legs, settle. Sloth to Sleep just… lets go. A little. Gravity does his descending for him. Curled up close to the branch, he is awake — that is as awake as he gets — and as the night comes down he simply unclenches, slowly, slowly, until he hangs fully stretched beneath his bough like a comfortable green hammock, and then he is gone. No other sleep in the cast is as easy to read, and none is more honest: going off to sleep, his whole shape says, is not something you do. It is something you stop doing.
